Background: Asian. Louisiana resident. 29 MCAT (9/10/10). GPA 3.3-3.5 with cGPA higher than sGPA. Tons of volunteering, 3 years of research, scribe for 6 months. I only have an MD letter, but I scribed for a few DOs and my brother's neurosurgeon is a DO.

ACOMAS Basically Ready but NOT all Evaluations Are

So I have had my MD, DO, and prof's send their LoR's into Interfolio for safe keeping, however I also had them send it into the AACOMAS thing to make them happy (apparently they prefer this way). Anyways, I have my MD and DO letter ready to go in there, however my prof hasn't sent it into AACOMAS yet but it is in Interfolio, and the other prof just hasn't been responding to my emails even though she said she would write me up one.

My question is, I want to submit this weekend, does it matter...

Thanks to @OsteopathicHopeful for coming up with this idea!

This thread is meant to help each other through secondaries, interviews, and beyond I want us to be able to post anything and have similar individuals comment and provide feedback.

It is is reserved for those w/ less than a 24 MCAT or less than 3.25 sGPA or cGPA. It can be either of those particulars, or both. Additionally, I would consider those that have 6 or below within a subsection of the MCAT to be within...

Transcript dilemma...

As the title implies, I have an issue! I have my transcript sent and verified by AACOMAS, but upon further review, I noticed that MUCOM has a sociology requirement, which I have somehow managed to miss in my whole undergraduate. I graduate this fall, and have just added an intro sociology class so I can meet the requirement. Will I need to resend my transcript showing this is a planned course and have to wait to get verified?

Chances AOA General Surgery categorical

Chance me for AOA General Surgery categorical. COMLEX 1 first take 559, Comlex 2 to be taken this month, low 25th percent of class, mostly pass with a couple of high pass as MS3. I would likely get 2 good LORs from my MS3 Surgery rotations and several more from IM rotations. I have 4 weeks each Gen Surg Rotations at Garden, Genesys, McLaren-Macomb ( all in Michigan) and St. James in Illinois. All before interview deadline. Should I change some of these 4week to 2 week rotations and...

No Non-Science Faculty LOR

Been out of undergrad for over a year and do have a non-science LOR; however it is from a past employer, not a school faculty member.

Are schools flexible at all with letting nontrads provide a non-science, non-faculty letter?

Options for Gap Year

Currently applying to D.O. schools, but I'm also looking for things to do during my gap year, more specifically clinical jobs (possibly to put on my application as well).

What are your opinions on applying for medical scribe or surgical technician positions without prior experience or training?

Also, can anyone clarify whether or not these positions need certifications? Sorry if it's been posted before, I haven't really found enough information. Any personal insight or experience with those...

AACOMAS English requirement

So basically every DO requires 2 semesters of English/Writing. My university requires that students complete two semesters of writing to graduate but offers only tier I writing courses. In order to satisfy the tier II writing requirement, students have to take a specific course within each major that involves writing and will satisfy this requirement. My question is: When categorizing my classes as I input my transcript, should I classify it under its original subject (microbiology) and then...

Why do you, honestly, want to be a DO?

Yes, I know, this has been asked before and the MD vs. DO debate has been on the forum everywhere, blah blah blah.
I do not intend for this to become an MD vs. DO debate.
Rather, I am genuinely interested in why you guys want to be a DO. That might mean comparing it to allopathic medical school, but please don't turn this into an MD vs. DO debate. We're all sick of seeing that.

So, why do you want to be a DO?
Be as honest as possible, no bull****! You are not talking to an...

DO, too good to be true? What's the catch?

I hate to come in and be that guy who brings up the MD vs DO argument which has been discussed constantly but I also believe in the whole too good to be true saying. Now I wrecked my undergrad career with poor decisions and a lot of other issues (graduated with a 2.5 overall, 4.0 my final 3 semesters). DO seems like the best decision for guys like me who might be interested in med school and have turned it around.

That being the case, what is the downfall or the shortcoming of going the DO...

Gap year struggling pre-med. Wondering what to do?

So I have been a lurker here for a while and I know this has been answered probably multiple times, but I want to see what everyone's thoughts are.

I'll get to the nitty gritty. Father is a ER doc and have multiple dentists in the family. Sister is a ortho PA and I graduated last spring and currently working as a scribe at my father's hospital. I would say I'm smarter than the average but definitely struggled in some classes. Overall GPA is 3.45 with some retakes and science is 3.2. I had...

Hi everyone!,
My name is Ellenti and I would like to start off saying that my family values education very highly. I am the first member of my family to have a chance to go to school and prepare for my future. I am academically- excelled, receiving honors and recognitions, but after graduating high school, everything went downhill due to family and financial reasons. Currently I am finishing my BS Biology degree and studying the GRE and MCAT. My transcripts have A's B's C's D's F's W's...

I recently uploaded 6 letters of recommendation to accomas. The question I have is how can I designate individual ones to separate schools. I don't want to send all 6 to every school I am applying to. Appreciate feedback

Hello, I have messaged the only person on the forum that is willing to read personal statements and I haven't gotten a reply. Would anyone be willing to review my personal statement for content and let me know the truth. I had a friend edit for grammar but she doesn't know much about the process of applying for medical school so I would like another opinion before I submit my application. Thank you all

Where should I apply (sorry for another one of these posts)

I just recently decided to pursue DO because it seems more realistic for me.

Here are my stats:

sGPA & cGPA = 3.5
MCAT:
- 6/2013: 5/8/9 = 22
- 1/08/2015: 9/9/9 = 27

Activities:
Research: 5 semester of undergraduate independent research, but it did not lead to publication.
Shadowing: 100 hours +, but no DO hours. Can I apply now, and get my DO shadowing hours later?
Volunteer: 400 hours at a clinic that catered to mentally/physically disabled people. 500 hours volunteering at a hospital...

Changes to TCOM Grading System

The Class of 2020 is going to be the first class for the new grading policy.

Currrently it is A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, F <70%. The new system will be Honors (H), Pass (P), Fail (F). They haven't released the parameters for what will be H/P/F, but my guess is H = 90-100%, P = 70-89%, and F = <70%.

I think it is a good change and wish it was happening a year earlier!
